Why use PPGI coated coil?

1. There are various colors and patterns of pre-painted galvanized coils to suit different styles and applications.

2. Color coatings also make PPGI steel more corrosion resistant and durable.

3. PPGI steel coil has excellent processing performance. Thus, you can make different products from the coils according to your needs.

4. The pre-painted galvanized steel coil also retains the strength of the steel, making it durable and safe.

5. The PPGI coated coil is light in weight, so it is easy to transport and install.

6. Compared with PPGL steel, it is more affordable.

Overview of pre-painted galvanized steel coil

What is a PPGI Coil?

PPGI roll is short for pre-painted galvanized steel roll. It is a kind of color-coated steel that uses hot-dip galvanized steel or electro-galvanized steel (zinc coating) as the base, and is coated with several layers of organic coatings for rust protection. Except for PPGI steel coil, Wanzhi Steel also has color coated galvanized steel coil (PPGL) and hot rolled or cold rolled steel as base metal.

Hot dip galvanized steel PPGI

At JuHe Steel, we mainly use hot dip galvanized steel sheets as base metal. With zinc layer protection and organic coating, the service life is longer than hot dip galvanized sheet. The maximum zinc layer available is 275 g/m². If you have a spec.

Electro-galvanized steel PPGI

Electro-galvanized sheet is used as a basis. Because the zinc layer of electro-galvanized sheet is thin, usually 20g/m², its corrosion resistance is not as good as that of hot-dip galvanized sheet. Therefore, this product is not suitable for making walls and roofs for outdoor use. But it has beautiful appearance and excellent processing performance, mainly used in household appliances, steel furniture, interior decoration, etc.

PPGI coil production process

1. The galvanized steel base is unwound and welded, and then passed through the inlet looper for continuous cleaning and pretreatment.

2. After pre-treatment, a chemical conversion coating layer is formed on the surface.

3. Roll coating process. The roll coating process is one of the most widely used color coating processes. As a rule, we paint and dry the back and top sides of the base metal twice (namely, the double-sided coating method). For some special purpose, it can be dyed and dried three times or once.

4. Cool the coated steel.

5. After quality checking, color coated sheet will be rolled up for sale.

That’s why there are several layers of pre-painted galvanized steel coils, including base metal, zinc coating (double sides), chemical conversion coating (double sides), primer coating (double sides) and top/back coating.

How to choose PPGI coil coating?

There are a variety of PPGI coated rolls with different inks, colors and coating thicknesses. You can choose according to your requirements, such as usage environment, service life, etc.

1. Types of coatings

When choosing a primer, the adhesion of the primer must be taken into account; while for a topcoat, corrosion resistance and color retention are more important.

There are four commonly used inks, including polyester (PE), silicone modified polyester (SMP), high strength polyester (HDP), and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF). The polyethylene coating has good adhesion and is widely used as a primer. Whereas HDP and PVDF will be more suitable as a topcoat due to their excellent durability and color retention.

2. Coating thickness.

In JuHe Steel, the coating thickness is typically 5/10 µm. The maximum top paint can be 35㎛. As a rule, the thicker the coating, the higher its wear resistance. You can choose according to the usage environment. For example, one layer of back coating is recommended for sandwich wall panels. If you have special requirements, please let us know.

3. Coating colors

What color is the best? It mainly depends on the usage environment, your preference and market demand. For example, beauty is the first concern of civil buildings. But corrosion resistance is more important for industrial buildings. In addition, light-colored paint has a stronger ability to reflect heat. Moreover, the change in color in dark colors is more noticeable than in light ones.

What’s more, you can also specify paint brands, such as AkzoNobel, Nippon, etc. Welcome to contact us for details!

Surface treatment

1. Laminating film

This process consists in depositing a layer of transparent organic film (30-50 µm) on a steel coil at high temperature. It has some unique properties such as fire resistance, fingerprint resistance, excellent durability, anti-fouling ability, etc. It is obvious that this processing method can well protect the steel coil during storage and transportation. Of course it will be more expensive. But if you will use the PPGI coil as refrigerator front panels, high-end cabinet panels, set-top box cabinets, etc., film lamination will be a good choice to prevent scratches. Below is a video for your reference.

2. Embossing

Embossed PPGI steel coil has various patterns. The most popular patterns are stucco, rhombus, etc. And it’s customizable. Compared with the smooth steel coil, it has a vivid 3D effect.
